Hardware Price Tracker (August 2026)

Every component in the build guides and the key hardware in this folder — with MSRP, real August 2026 US street prices, used prices, sources, and last-checked dates.

Market context (why prices look crazy): GDDR7 memory shortages pushed GPUs 50–150% over MSRP; AI memory demand tripled–quadrupled DRAM (the “RAMpocalypse”); NAND shortages doubled+ SSD prices. Street prices move weekly — treat the numbers below as a snapshot, re-verify against the linked trackers before buying.

Last checked: August 9, 2026. Currency: USD, street prices (Amazon/Newegg/Best Buy/eBay averages).

1. GPUs

GPU VRAM MSRP Street (Aug 2026) Used Source Checked
RTX 5090 32 GB $1,999 ~$3,600–4,800 (Amazon $4,829; Microcenter ~$3,300–3,700; Newegg ~$3,800; some listings >$5,100) ~$3,590 bestvaluegpu tracker, Tech Insider Aug 9, 2026

Notes: RTX 5090/5080/5070 Ti/5060 Ti and RX 9070 XT are all above MSRP due to the GDDR7 shortage. The 4090 and 3060 are the two “inverted market” cards — 4090 used pricing rose as the 50-series shortage cut supply; the 3060 12 GB remains the VRAM-per-dollar budget king.

2. AI desktops / systems

System MSRP Street (Aug 2026) Source Checked
DGX Spark (128 GB) $4,699 (raised from $3,999, Feb 2026) $4,699 official; retail $4,000–5,615 (Best Buy $4,899–5,615; some June retail $3,999) NVIDIA marketplace, OC3D hike report, Best Buy Aug 9, 2026

Mac Studio M5 Ultra (up to 512 GB) from ~$4,000+ (reported; M5 Ultra specs still partially unconfirmed) MacRumors reports Aug 9, 2026

3. CPUs

CPU MSRP Street (Aug 2026) Used Source Checked
Ryzen 5 5600 $199 (2022) ~$130–148 new (Amazon $147.76) ~$92–134 PCPartPicker, camelcamelcamel Aug 9, 2026
Ryzen 5 7600 $229 (2023) ~$190–232 (PCPartPicker $229; UK ~£158) ~$130 PCPartPicker Aug 9, 2026
Ryzen 7 9800X3D $479 ~$380–415 (Microcenter $379.99; Amazon $414.99; Walmart $394.88; Newegg $439.99) Micro Center, camelcamelcamel, TechPowerUp Aug 9, 2026

Note: CPUs are the one bright spot — 9800X3D dropped ~20% from launch ($479 → ~$380–415) on back-to-school pricing. AMD 9000-series cuts continue.

4. Memory (the RAMpocalypse)

Kit Pre-shortage (2025) Street (Aug 2026) Source Checked
16 GB DDR4-3200 ~$30–40 ~$80–100 (est. from 32 GB data) Tom’s Hardware RAM index Aug 9, 2026
32 GB DDR4-3200/3600 ~$60–90 (Oct 2025) ~$150–260 (Corsair LPX $71.99 → $262.99) Tom’s Hardware RAM index, TechPowerUp thread Aug 9, 2026
32 GB DDR5-6000 <$90 (early 2025) ~$380–530 (nothing under ~$379; UK £280–360) Shattered.io, Tom’s Hardware Aug 9, 2026
64 GB DDR5-6000 ~$150–200 ~$600–1,000 (Crucial Pro $998 Amazon; Newegg $500–750+; kits tripled $279 → $876 in a month) camelcamelcamel, TweakTown, HotHardware, Reddit Aug 9, 2026

Note: DRAM analysts expect prices to stay high through H1 2026 and peak around Q2 2026 at $550–600/32 GB DDR5 — a full recovery is not expected before 2027. RAM is now a line item you must budget for; it rivals the GPU in the mid build.

5. Storage (NAND shortage)

Drive Pre-shortage (2024) Street (Aug 2026) Source Checked
500 GB NVMe ~$30–40 ~$90–120 (est. from 1 TB data) Tom’s Hardware SSD report Aug 9, 2026
1 TB NVMe ~$55–65 ~$150–330 (cheapest ~$150; Samsung/Kingston past $330; ~$250 typical) Tom’s Hardware SSD report, DropReference, oscoo outlook Aug 9, 2026
2 TB NVMe ~$100–130 ~$300–500 (est. — 1 TB at $150–330 scales up) Tech Insider Aug 9, 2026

Note: 1 TB TLC NAND die cost more than doubled in a year ($4.80 → ~$10.70); NAND shortages are expected to worsen in 2027. Buy only what you need now.

6. Motherboards, PSU, case, cooler (stable estimates)

Component Street (Aug 2026) Notes
B550 (AM4) ~$85 new / ~$60 used Budget build carrier; stable
B650 (AM5) ~$130 Mid build carrier
X870E (AM5) ~$280–350 High build; 2× PCIe 5.0 x16
PSU 550 W ~$50 Budget build
PSU 650 W ~$75 Mid build
PSU 850 W ~$100 For a future 4090 (450 W TDP)
PSU 1200 W ATX 3.0 ~$220 High build; second-GPU headroom
mATX case ~$40–55 Budget
Mid-tower case ~$60–80 Mid
Full-tower case ~$150 High
360 AIO cooler ~$130 High

These commodity parts are less affected by the memory/NAND shortages; treat as stable estimates (±20%).

How to re-check

  1. GPUs: bestvaluegpu.com price trackers (linked above per card) — the fastest-moving segment, check weekly.
  2. RAM/SSD: Tom’s Hardware RAM price index + SSD pricing report (monthly updates); NAND/DRAM contract price news.
  3. Everything else: stable enough to check monthly.

Bottom line for the build guides: Budget ~$665–735, Mid ~$1,465, High ~$5,300–6,300 — the GPU (GDDR7 shortage) and RAM (RAMpocalypse) lines are the two that move; everything else is ±20% stable.
